Relationships change with the realization we’re dying.
Main
Most apps, especially social apps want our attention, and do everything to maximize the time we spend on the platform. Therefore they constantly send us notifications and craft the experience in a certain way.
We realize we’re going to die on a daily basis. Even though it might not seem so obvious. When we close a social app, after mindlessly scrolling for an hour, it tends to be with the impulse of “I’m wasting my time”.For a brief second, we realize our time isn’t infinite, we’re going to die, and we are wasting our time on IG.
That feeling can last 15 minutes or sometimes even a day. But we then forget, jump back on the app, and the cycle starts again.
At some point, we will close the app for good, and never open it again.
Don’t believe me? Try this experiment: When you’re on your deathbed, you’ll want to spend your last minutes with the people you love, you won’t be on IG. You have VERY little time left, and you won’t want to waste it.
Currently (TODAY) we close IG and open it up again fairly quickly.
On our Deathbed we don’t even think about wasting a second.
I believe that humanity, possibly seen as a trend or fad, will close IG and never open it up again at some point in the middle (A, B, C, or D).
We don’t have to wait till our deathbed to stop wasting time.
Being in control of your time is the biggest luxury. This means not using certain apps, which can feel like you’re playing a different game.
This is where new hardware comes into play. We’ll see that in another post soon.
Conclusion
At some point, people will have a deeper realization that they’re going to die (hopefully before their deathbed), and that’s when they’ll close certain apps for good.
We believe there will be a strong wave with the idea that “Offline is a luxury”, Intentionality, Meaningfulness, and interacting with the world and others, not technologies.
Additional Notes
Wasting time means not doing things in a meaningful, intentional way.
Wasting time includes: Scrolling social media, watching TV, consuming a lot of the news, and watching movies late into the night while using TikTok.You can still watch a movie: Getting together with friends (or do it solo), preparing popcorn, turning down the lights, and playing that movie you’ve always wanted to see.
